Searching for info on John Barner 1771-1841, and wife Judith Ladd. John was born in Brunswick Co., VA, lived in Stokes Co., NC, Some of the children were born in Fayette Co., IN in 1820s. Thanks.
Poss. dau. of Abram KINDER, b ca. 1800 VA, d ca. 1853 Fayette Co., IN, & Lucinda (unk), b ca. 1812 KY, d aft. 1870. In 1850, the Abram KINDER family was censused in Connersville, Fayette, IN: KINDER, Abram, 50, farmer, $3200 RE, b VA; Lucinda, 38, b KY; John, 16, laborer, b IN; Nancy, 12, b IN; Henry, 9, b IN; Lydia, 7, b IN; Margaret, 5, b IN; Lutitia, 3, b IN; & Ephraim, 1, b IN. Youngest child, Adaline, was b 1852. By 1860, Abram KINDER had presumably died. His widow was probably the Lucinda KINDER, age 46, b KY, who was 1860 censused owning $7200 RE & $650 PP, living in the household of Rebecca KINDER, 45, farming, $129 PP, b IN, & Alexander KINDER, 19, b IN. Abram's & Lucinda's 6 youngest children were 1860 censused in a PIPER household in Fairview Twp., Fayette, IN: PIPER, Harvey, 35, farmer, $60 PP, b IY; Lucinda, 33, b IN; Harvey R., 6, b IN; Josiah E., 8 mos., b IN; KINDER, Henry 19, farmer, b IN; Lydia, 17, b IN; Margaret, 15, b IN; Luticia, 13, b IN; Ephraim, 11, b IN; & Adaline, 8, b IN. Next door was the senior, well-to-do PIPER family: PIPER, Josiah, 57, farmer, $25000 RE, $7015 PP, b KY; Margarit, 57, b KY; Susan J., 26, b IN Because Lucinda (unk) KINDER & Josiah PIPER & his wife Margarit (unk) PIPER were all KY natives, it is probable that either Mr. or Mrs. Piper was a brother or sister of Lucinda, & therefore, her young children were living in an older cousin's home. By 1870, the children were again living w/ their mother, all censused at P.O. Groves, Fairview Twp., Fayette, IN: h51 - KINDER, Henry, 30, farmer, $808 PP, b IN, & wife Susan, 26, b IN; h52 - KINDER, Lucinda, 57, $60 PP, b IN; Lydia, 27, b IN; Lutisha, 23, b IN; Ephraim, 21, b IN; & Adaline, 19, b IN. Next door is the KINDER family w/ whom Lucinda had been living in 1860: KINDER, Rebecca, 53, b IN; Alexander, 29, farmer, $2000 RE, $713 PP, b IN; & Elizabeth, 29, b IN. The Josiah PIPER & the Harvey M. PIPER households were censused in the same location (Groves, Fairview, Fayette, IN) at h's 104 & 105. In the meantime, Henry William POWHATAN was b bet. 1822-32 ME. He m1 Mary J. (unk), variously listed as b OH or KY, d ca. 1873-80 Spencer Co., IN. They had one son, Lewis Casper "Doc" POWHATAN, b 1856 Dayton, OH, d 1934, Okmulgee Co., OK. Doc m 3 times, had 9 children --- all of whom he more or less deserted --- & was an early dentist in Lincoln Co., Indian Territory (OK). Ada Madeline KINDER m Henry William POWHATAN 4 Sep 1881 (place unk). They had 3 children: 1- William Arthur "Arthur, Willie" POWHATAN, b Apr 1883 MO, d ca. 1920-21 Sallisaw, Sequoyah, OK; 2- Allen L. POWHATAN, b Jun 1886 Mt. View, Howell, MO, d Sep 1886, same place; & 3- Carrie Mabel "Mabel" POWHATAN, b May 1889, Mt. View, Howell, MO, d Mar 1917, Sallisaw, Sequoyah, OK. (Mabel was my husband's paternal grandmother.) Contrarily, one researcher believes Madeline Kinder Powhatan m1 (unk) KINDER & had one son, James Madison KINDER in 1852. James Madison later lived in Mt. View, Howell, MO, & later in Lincoln Co., OK. I would be grateful for ANY information to definitively identify this Ada Madeline KINDER who married Henry William POWHATAN. Was her maiden name KINDER, or did she first marry an (unk) KINDER? If the latter, what was her maiden name? WHERE did she & POWHATAN marry? Who were her parents? I would be most interested in thoughts from any IN Kinder ancestors, & would, of course, be glad to share all that I have accumulated.

WHEELER; MURPHY; BOLES; LYON
aerobbins@earthlink.net April Robbins Tue, 14 Jul 1998
I am looking for a lineal connection from Amzi WHEELER to a LYON family of NY. Amzi was a merchant from NY whose pedigree is extant in records of CT. However, there is nothing about his marriages. He m 1st to unknown and had at least one child, Frances (female) b 1834/NY; he m 2nd to Susan MURPHY 1844/Fayette Co IN. The WHEELERS appear in Marshall co IN 1850 and 1860 with the following children: Sherman G b 1842/IN, Allie/Alicia M b 1845/IN, Edward R b 1847/IN.
In the same county, Marshall, IN, appears a doctor, Llewellyn Martin BOLES and his wife Catherine. Catherine was b 1830/NY and Llewellyn 1817/OH. Catherine and L named one of their 1st born sons after this Amzi WHEELER--Amzi WHEELER BOLES b 1857--therefore I am presuming they knew Mr. WHEELER well, if not having a kinship bond, probably through Catherine LYONS branch as she was from NY.
