DOWNING, VOREIS/VORIS/VORIES
voreis@greenville.infi.net Larry Voreis Tue, 23 Dec 1997 21:54:43 -0800
Abraham VORIS purchased land in Fayette Co. under land patent #5557
dated 30 March 1837. I am researching the VOREIS (VORIS, VORIES, etc.)
family history. Abraham was married to Elizabeth DOWNING and they were
said to have had twenty children. I am looking for any evidence of the
Voris family in Fayette Co.: land purchased or sold, marriage records,
etc. The family also lived in Union Co., and Rush Co. during the period
1822-1837 when they removed to Marshall Co. as pioneers. Several of
Abrahams' children were of marrying age while they were in the vacinity
of Fayette Co. so there is a good chance they appear in the records.

HOTCHKISS, PANGMAN, SULLIVAN
105671.224@compuserve.com Mary M. Ferm Sun, 7 Dec 1997 02:38:32 -0500
On 20 June 1839 Absalom Colman ("A.C.") SULLIVAN was married to Charlotte
HOTCHKISS in Connorsville, Fayette Co, by the Rev. David J. Stiner
(spelling?), a minister of the Gospel of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
By 1844 they had moved to Dayton, OH, where their first child, Laura
Frances Sullivan, was born. Other children born there were: Mary, Ellen,
James, Charles Colman. By 1867 they had moved on to Rochester, Olmstead Co,
MN. Charlotte Hotchkiss was the daughter of Andrew and Laura PANGMAN
HOTCHKISS who had moved to IN from NY State. I am looking for information
on Absalom's family. Family legend has it that his father's name was
William Sullivan. He was in OH in 1817 when Absalom was born, but that is
all I know. Does anyone know the parents or siblings of A.C. Sullivan?

MULLIS, SMITH
snowbird@cyberportal.net Julie Cooper Tue, 11 Nov 1997 11:38:20 -0500
Looking for information on Nancy MULLIS who was born around 1809-1810 in
Tennessee. I have so far been unable to identify her as one of the Mullis'
who migrated from North Carolina to Fayette County prior to 1850. It appears
that she was either widowed young, or separated from her husband, because no
husband is listed in any of the census records I've seen.
Nancy had a daughter named Jane (possibly Ellen Jane), who was born in North
Carolina in 1830, or there-abouts. Jane MULLIS married Thomas J. SMITH in
Fayette County, IN on April 6, 1848. Thomas was the son of George SMITH who
died in Fayette County in 1843 or 1844.
In 1850 Thomas and Jane Smith were living in Fayette County, and Nancy MULLIS
was living with them. A few houses away lived Ambrose MULLIS and his wife,
Mary and their family...which included daughters named Nancy and Jane. At
that time,
the Smith's had one son named Anderville SMITH.
As I understand it, Ambrose MULLIS was the son of Ambrose MULLIS, Sr. and
Nancy CASS MULLIS. This family is very well researched, and left North
Carolina with many family members in tow. With my MULLIS ancestors living
so near, it seems reasonable that they were part of this family, but I
haven't been able to place them.
The 1860 census shows Thomas and Jane living in Rush County, IN, but without
Nancy MULLIS present. (Other MULLIS family members settled in Rush County
also.) In 1870 they were in Howard County, and Nancy MULLIS was next door to
them. The 1880 Howard County census does not list Thomas, but shows Nancy
MULLIS and Jane SMITH living together with Jane's 14 year old son,
William SMITH.
If anyone knows anything about this spare Nancy MULLIS, or any of the above,
I'd really like to hear from you. In addition to needing to find Nancy's
place in the MULLIS family, I also need to find where all of these people
died and were buried. Thank you. Julie Cooper
